To get you up to speed with before all the action of Season 5 begins, I’ve put together a quick re-cap of the episodes of Season 4 of Wentworth starting from Episode 2.

Episode 2 – Poking Spiders

Feeling betrayed, Vera takes steps to have Bridget dismissed and expose her relationship with Franky, but is forced to backtrack and enlist Bridget’s help instead, when Ferguson makes a bid to be released into the general prison population. The three unlikely allies devise a plan in which Bridget attempts to entrap Ferguson into exposing her psychopathy. Kaz stages a protest with the women in the yard in an attempt to force Vera s hand on the conjugal visits program.

Episode 3 – Prisoner

Against Vera’s wishes, Ferguson is released into general. The women are out for blood but Vera confines Ferguson to her cell for safety reasons. When Ferguson challenges Vera’s decision, she’s left bewildered and wondering whether Ferguson has a death-wish. As always, Ferguson has an endgame but will she live to accomplish it?

Episode 4 – Screw Lover

Ferguson, having found protection in Kaz’s crew, cunningly blames Will for her brutal ganging, a move which only strengthens Kaz’s support for her. When Bea defends Will, it backfires dramatically. She is painted as a screw-lover, and rapidly begins to lose the support of the women. The first ever conjugal visit takes place at the prison, and Boomer shamelessly attempts to impregnate herself to her deadbeat ex-boyfriend, Daz. Meanwhile, Maxine is diagnosed with breast cancer and can’t bring herself to tell the other women.

Episode 5 – Love And Hate

With Bea in the slot, Ferguson intensifies her manipulation of Kaz. Seizing on the recent death of her father that sends Kaz into an inexplicable spiral, Ferguson realises that Kaz was a victim of abuse at his hands. Ferguson uses her own troubled relationship with her father as a means of forming a closer bond with Kaz. When new Indigenous inmate Tasha is put under Doreen’s care, Ferguson sees an opportunity to force Kaz into action against Bea.

Episode 6 – Divide And Conquer

Bea is released from the slot and is immediately confronted by Lucy — if Bea doesn’t punish Tasha for her break in prison rules, Lucy and her crew will be forced to. Liz is assigned to look after a new inmate in hopes of extracting a confession for the police in exchange for immediate parole. Doreen shocks everyone by turning her back on Bea.

Episode 7 – Panic Button

Ferguson is rattled when she discovers that Bea will be supporting Jesper’s evidence in court. Meanwhile, Bea seems to be losing control of the women so she forces a prison-wide vote to end the debate.

Episode 8 – Plan Bea

As Bea and Allie take their illicit affair further, Bea finds herself uncharacteristically tentative and vulnerable. Neither is aware that Ferguson is tracking them carefully. Meanwhile, Maxine leaves the prison to undergo a double mastectomy leaving Boomer distraught.

Episode 9 – Afterlife

Bea struggles to recover in the wake of her attack. Ferguson returns from the burns unit and is placed in a medical hold under the supervision of Jake. Maxine is back after surgery and finds herself in the crossfire of huge tension between Boomer, Liz and Sonia.

Episode 10 – Smitten

When Bea discovers Allie has fallen back into drug addiction, Bea decides to remove Allie from Kaz’s control once and for all. Meanwhile, Franky pursues Shayne in the hope of exposing Ferguson’s plan to undermine her trial and secure her release from Wentworth.

Episode 11 – Eleventh Hour

With Bea and Allie finally out as a couple, Kaz forms an alliance with Tina’s Asian crew to help take Bea down. But when Jake smuggles a new batch of drugs into the prison for Tina, Bea gets wind of the stash and orders Tina to flush the gear. Tina refuses, citing Bea’s weakening power-base, and her alliance with the Red Right Hand.

Episode 12 – Seeing Red

Bea awakes blissfully happy after a night with Allie but it is the eve of Ferguson’s trial and the Freak has been relentless in putting the final touches to her scheme for freedom and exoneration. She’s pitted Bea and Kaz against each other again and sparked chaos for Vera and Will with a full blown investigation into the drug trade within the prison. Liz becomes convinced of Sonia’s innocence and then Don puts an offer to Liz which could change her life. Maxine is committed to the chemotherapy and her prison family rallies around her. On trial day Ferguson’s passing comment about collateral damage refocuses Bea’s attention. Bea calls Franky for help on the outside as the intricate web of Ferguson’s strategy is revealed.
Season 3

Having been returned to Wentworth following her successful campaign to kill Brayden Holt, Bea Smith has assumed the mantle of Top Dog, hailed by all as a worthy successor. But having created a Top Dog she thought she could control, Ferguson now realises Bea has played her at her own game.

Franky teaches Bea a lesson in loyalty leaving her vulnerable to Jacs. When a young girl has a near death experience in Wentworth, Lizzie is forced to relive long buried memories from her own past. Jacs discovers her husband is having an affair in a very public way.

Episode 5 – The Velvet Curtain

Unsettled by a dream about Franky, Erica attempts to avoid her but they are thrown together when Franky becomes the poster girl for prison reform. Stripped of her peer worker duties, Liz’s drinking problem spirals until a close call gives her much needed perspective. A connection develops between Bea and Officer Will Jackson, prompting Bea to confide in Liz about the brutal truth about her marriage to Harry.

Episode 6 – Captive

A desperate Bea turns to Will in order to contact her daughter. Vera’s attempt to impress Fletch backfires as her domineering mother reveals a humiliating secret to her peers. Toni is released from the wet cell and targeted by Jacs who forces her to lie to the Governor. Although Erica knows the truth, she must betray someone close to her in order to protect her position at Wentworth.

Episode 7 – Something Dies

With Franky in the slot, Jacs is ruling the prison and the women are living in fear. When word gets out that Franky is to be released back into the compound, Jacs plans a brutal attack. Bea challenges Jacs and pays a high price. Will discovers something about Meg that sends him on a downward spiral, pushing him dangerously close to the edge.

Episode 8 – Mind Games

The officers and women are on edge as Bea’s popularity is on the rise and Jacs status rapidly declines. Jacs realises she has to make a final play to break Bea.

Episode 9 – To the Moon

Fletch reacts badly to Bea’s grief triggering his memories of a horrific experience in East Timor. Bea is dealt another devastating blow but is buoyed by the inmate’s support, while Jacs’s power further diminishes.

Episode 10 – Checkmate

Bea discovers the link between Debbie’s secret boyfriend and Jacs. As Fletch and Vera grow closer a secret threatens to tear them apart. Determined to end Franky’s manipulation of Bea, Liz turns to the Governor. However, before the day is over Bea has a deadly confrontation with a killer.
Season 4

As the story resumes, Bea and her cell-block mates are returning to Wentworth after the fire and rebuilding of H Block to find a new dynamic in play with a new contender for Top Dog. On the outside, Franky is trying hard to be a productive member of society. As always, no-one should underestimate “the Freak”.

The women of H Block return to Wentworth after the rebuild to find a new dynamic in play – Vera is Governor, Will is deputy and Kaz Proctor has established a power base. Bea questions whether she has the stamina or desire to be Top Dog for the next forty years of her sentence.
