Friday Night Frights: An Ode to H.P. Lovecraft

The following movies are Scary, Gorey, Suspenseful with disturbing and violent scenes.

It serves to say that  H.P. Lovecraft is regarded as the master of fantastical horror stories.

H.P. Lovecraft was born Howard Phillips Lovecraft in 1890, in Providence, Rhode Island.

First,a classic of Lovecraftian proportions that scared crap out of me in 1985, because it was the FIRST movie based on works of H.P. Lovecraft that I ever saw:

A medical student and his girlfriend become involved in a bizarre experiment into reanimating the dead conducted by the student’s incorrigible housemate in a campy sendup of an H.P. Lovecraft story.

The emphasis may be on humour but once the dead walk, there is gore aplenty, with the only thing being funny is how the passage of time dilutes fear.

Incident in a Ghostland

A mother of two inherits a home from her Aunt. On the first night in the new home, she is confronted with murderous intruders and fights for her daughter’s lives. Sixteen years later when the daughters reunite at the house, and that is when things get strange…

Incident in A Ghostland Movie PosterThis is movie is inspired by Howard Phillip Lovecraft (a.k.a H.P. Lovecraft).

Incident in a Ghostland features two young women subjected to abuse (both real and imaginary) as they’re locked inside by a pair of first-rate psychopaths. Why any of this happens remains unclear, although the director (Laugier) does make some inventive narrative moves to render his project interesting.

However if you are the type that figures out a movie before the first act ends or if you are a snowflake that melts at the sight of torture/slasher porn move on.
