Omarosa Manigault Newman’s Release the Tapes Book Tour continued this morning on CBS News, where she dropped another one. The former Apprentice contestant and Director of Communications for the White House Office of Public Liaison claims in her new book that President Trump repeatedly used the “N-word” while taping The Apprentice, and that a tape exists of him saying it. In response, Trump has spent the last few days explaining that the person he hired to a senior-level White House position and paid $180,000 a year in taxpayer cash is a vicious, incompetent “lowlife” with no credibility.
Now that Trump’s knack for managing human resources is confirmed—”The Best People”—Omarosa thought it was a good time to release a tape that strongly hints The Other Tape really does exist.
The most astonishing part of Trumplandia is that literally no one has a shred of credibility. The lying is so bone-deep and pervasive, in both external and internal communications, that everything requires independent verification—some kind of hard evidence. You could ask them the score of the Yankee game last night and they’d probably fudge the numbers.
So there’s no reason to believe Omarosa when she says she’s personally heard the “N-word” tape. There’s clearly no reason to believe Trump campaign advisors Katrina Pierson and Lynne Patton now, when they say the conversation on the tape just released never happened. But while CBS was clear it couldn’t confirm the tape’s authenticity, it does appear to feature those three. And the way they’re discussing the potential tape suggests two things:
They’re not particularly concerned that Trump might’ve used the word, only how they can spin it if it comes out.
Omarosa and Pierson seem sure that the incident happened *Although NOW pierson is claiming that she was just ‘Humoring’ Omarosa.
Remember, this was recorded back during the campaign, when they were all fighting for Trump in the trenches. This is what his allies thought of him. While Omarosa is now using it to her own benefit—and Trump’s detriment—the original context was quite different. They were on his side. They wanted him to win. And if this tape is legit, they were pretty sure The Other Tape was floating around somewhere.
Obviously, the President of the United States had to weigh in on this one. On Monday night, he proudly proclaimed that Apprentice producer Mark Burnett had cleared him of all c
Most people would start with I don’t use racial slurs, rather than There’s no tape of me using racial slurs. But most people are not True Champions of Civil Rights like our president, who’s also known for calling African nations “shitholes,” saying “very fine people” march alongside Nazis, spreading disgusting propaganda about black-on-white crime, suggesting the first black president was not born in America and could not have gotten into Ivy League schools legitimately, publicly insulting the intelligence of prominent black people, and getting sued for racial housing discrimination.
Our president logged back on this morning to continue his defense:
Does the president think calling a black woman “that dog” makes it seem less likely he’s used the ‘N-word’? Perhaps we’ll find out on the next episode of The Omarosa Files. Pierson and Patton are calling Omarosa’s book a “work of fiction,” which is a pretty fair assumption. Except, at least for some of it, she’s got receipts.
