I hadn’t written about Alton Sterli9ng shooting even though it precipitated the Phildro Castile’s shooting. The circumstances surrounding the shooting of Sterling was questionable. I had heard reports that Sterling was in possession of a firearm while he was on parole for possessing an unlicensed firearm.

I don’t immediately defend individuals, even when they have tragic interactions with the police. For example many readers remember how I lambasted Sandra Bland for the behavior that excalated her interaction with a policeman that ultimately led to her arrest and subsequent suicide.

Alton Sterling

On July 5, 2016, Alton Sterling, a 37-year-old black man, was shot several times after being tackled to the ground by two white Baton Rouge Police Department officers in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Police were responding to a report that a man dressed in red and selling CDs used a gun to threaten someone outside a convenience store. The shooting was recorded by multiple bystanders. The videos show the confrontation and shooting at point-blank range.

The shooting led to protests in Baton Rouge and a civil rights investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice.

It would have been remiss if I hadn’t posted this video, it is alleged by the store owner (Whose business this happened in front of) that it did appear that the police did remove a gun from the body.

In the video below it does look like Alton Sterling is resisting the police, maybe because having an unlicensed gun is illegal.

Can’t wait to return to some semblance of normalcy and write about Bea and Ally’s ill-fated love on Wentworth Prison.
